Commission to hear testimony on Keauhou Aquifer

The state Commission on Water Resource Management will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at West Hawaii Civic Center, Building A, Council Chambers, to hear public testimony and decide whether to continue to process to designate the Keauhou Aquifer System Area as a designated ground water management area.

The petition for the ground water management area designation is from the U.S. Department of Interior, National Park Service and Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park. Testimony will be taken from the petitioner, government agencies and representatives and the public.

The public may submit written comments at any time. Previously submitted written or oral testimony do not need to be sent again.

Civil Air Patrol cadets to place wreaths at veterans cemetery

Kona Civil Air Patrol Cadets will hold a wreath-placing ceremony at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery Saturday.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony, which begins at 7 a.m. to coincide with a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.

VFW meeting is Saturday

Veterans of Foreign Wars will meet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the post on Kaiwi Street. A vote will be taken to increase the yearly dues. All members are urged to attend. Th meeting will also outline plans for the coming year.

Kailua-Kona Seniors to view charity trees

The Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 9 a.m. Dec. 17 at Hale Halawai. Members will travel to Mauna Lani Bay Hotel to view the annual Charity Trees display. Members will have lunch at the Queens’ MarketPlace, food court. Attendees should bring money for transportation.

Hoolokahi Congregational Church will hold a Christian fun night from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at its meeting space in Kealakekua Ranch Center in Captain Cook. The event will include a rummage sale, an open-mic sing along with Robert Fitts Sr., games and refreshments. Families with children are welcome. There will be no charge but donations will be accepted.
